Do you think its wise to buy a warranty for a digital camera?
I just bought my Canon SX100 for $220 all together with tax include. If Id want the warranty it would cost me $40. Is it worth it and should I get it? I read a lot of consumer reports that digital camera’s often tend not to break down and about only 6% of the have issues within the first two year. A couple of reports even said warranties are a waste of my for such an investment? What do you think?

From my experience with maintenance and repair data from professional electronics systems , most failures occur in the early stages or “burn in period” for electronic eauipment.
Then they will work relaibly until the components start to deteriorate with age and more problems appear.
The standard manufacturers warranty should cover the “burn in” period.
You may be very unlucky and have a problem outside the standard warranty but you mention reports th asuggest thi dsis unlikely.
I agree with the reports, I rely on the standard manufacturers warranty.
